An Ember in the Ashes Review

I loved it. That’s all I can say really! Two points of view: Laia and Elias.

Laia, who becomes a slave spy on behalf of the resistance. And Elias, a Mask who hates the Empire.

They’re a great team.

It’s a book with themes of empathy, how to cope with guilt and finding the good in yourself.

The side characters are also complex and interesting – particularly Helene and the Commandant.

Cook was also an interesting character and I really want to know who she really is – I have a small incline, we’ll see if I’m right.

The plot didn’t have any filler chapters – everything counted and there were no boring, slow bits.

I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2!

The photo shows some new leaves growing – the book made me think of it.
